History

In 1986 Sportverein PARA (PARA Sports Association) was founded in order to implement the movement laboratory (movement landscape and -building yard, motopedagogical playground as well as circus courses) as the concept of integral body experience. The movement laboratory gives children the opportunity to develop freely through movement, where each child can express its own personality and evolve further. The diversity of movement offers was transferred onto different areas (dance, Aikido, games etc.).

In 1991 Circus KAOS (official carrier: Kulturverein KAOS) was founded as an impulse for the integral movement- and self-development of older children and teenagers. Influencing factors for the content related creation of the project were Pesta in Ecuador, Summerhill in England, Moo Ban Dek in Thailand and Benposta in Spain as well as South America among others.

Because of the diversity of forms in movement and expression of the children from Sportverein PARA and Circus KAOS the need for more and more complex equipment arose in order to turn their creative ideas in reality. This led to the foundation of the Instituts für Spiel- und Sporttechnologie (Institute for Technology in Games and Sports) as a platform for the planning, development and distribution of new exercise and circus equipment.

In 2001 eventually the Zirkusakademie Wien (Circus Academy Vienna) was brought to life to also give adults the opportunity to experience the delight in movement and the fascination of the world of circus. A two-year education program in circus arts and circus pedagogy is offered in order to implement the goals listed above in the field of adult education. It was the first time that the need for such training in Austria was taken into account.

We are a founding member of the Austrian Federal Association of Circus Pedagogy (ÖBVZ), which is part of the European Youth Circus Organization (EYCO).
